When: 10 a.m. Friday
Where: Hudson Valley Community College, Troy
New York State Sportswriters Rankings: East Aurora No. 4, Susquehanna Valley No. 6.
How they got here: East Aurora earned its second state final four appearance by beating Section V champion Livonia, 63-46, in Saturday’s Far West Regionals. The last time the Blue Devils reached this stage of the tournament, they returned home as state champions. Susquehanna Valley defeated Section III champion Westhill, 47-41, in the Central Regional.
EA starters/key players: 6-foot-0 freshman Emma Brinker, 5-7 senior Erin Nason, 5-7 junior Sam Youngman, 5-5 soph. Julianna Misenheimer, 5-7 junior Maddy Kelchlin, 5-5 soph. Kasey Kmicinski, 5-10 soph. Sarah Fiscus, 5-8 junior Caroline Dudley, 5-5 senior Julia Prychodko.
SV key players: Freshman Holly Manchester, soph. Caitlyn Knapp, soph. Erin Nolan, junior Shayna Lee, junior Paige Finch, senior Jordyn Williams, freshman Hannah Haskell.
Skinny on Susquehanna Valley: Located near Binghamton in the Town of Conklin, the school district includes towns of Vestal, Kirkwood and Windsor.
Scout: Susquehanna is young but has lots of talent and depth as SV will go 10 deep. The only senior on the team is a reserve. Susquehanna Valley is a first-time sectional champion and a first-time state final four participant. The Sabers (not to be confused with Sabres) are almost a mirror image of East Aurora. They have a big person inside they like to feed but also have guards who can shoot from the perimeter. They do a good job rebounding. This game will be won by the team that is able to impose its will in the paint and make some shots from outside. If EA is able to run, watch out.
What’s next: Winner advances to Saturday’s championship game at 4 p.m. against either frequent semifinal visitor Irvington of Section I or II-Hoosick Falls.
