Bisons get first win of spring training

The calendar has flipped to spring, and the Buffalo Bisons celebrated with their first win of spring training.

The Bisons took an 8-4 decision from the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs in a game played in Dunedin, Fla. Buffalo improved its preseason record to 1-2.

Infielder Jake Fox had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs. Fox was an offseason free-agent signing by the Blue Jays. He split last season between Laguna of the Mexican League and Double-A Reading of the Eastern League. Fox hit .309 with 38 homers in the two stops. He was the player of the year in the Atlantic League in 2013, hitting .310 with 25 homers and 82 RBIs before signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks’ organization.

Chris Colabello, the most valuable player in the International League for Rochester in 2013, went 1 for 3 Friday and scored a run.

Pitcher Andrew Alberts picked up the win with three scoreless innings of relief.

Buffalo will again play Lehigh Valley in Dunedin on Saturday.
