LOCKPORT – Two men who violated probation terms were sentenced Thursday to a year in Niagara County Jail in separate cases before County Judge Sara Sheldon.
Jose C. Rivera, 23, of Michigan Avenue, Niagara Falls, had pleaded guilty to attempted third-degree burglary for trying to steal copper pipe from a vacant house on Seventh Street in the Falls April 6, 2013. Police found 150 feet of freshly cut pipe in the basement after Rivera was caught when he became snagged on a fence he tried to climb while fleeing from police.
In the other case, Adam C. Strobele, 19, of Beattie Avenue, Lockport, was jailed after failing on interim probation. He had pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal trespass and fourth-degree criminal mischief for a break-in Aug. 16, 2013, at the Lockport Inn and Suites on South Transit Street in Lockport. Strobele received a final chance last month with admission to an inpatient drug rehabilitation facility, but in less than three weeks he was ejected for damaging property and nearly getting into a fight with another man.
