Parents of the teen who fell off a Walden Galleria escalator turn him in

The parents of the 16-year-old boy who escaped possible death trying to ride up a Walden Galleria escalator while hanging onto it only by his arms took him to Cheektowaga police headquarters Wednesday night and disclosed that three other boys under age 16 were involved in the post-midnight stunt March 8, Assistant Police Chief James Speyer said Thursday.

The 16-year-old admitted in his parents’ presence that he was the one filmed by a friend as he fell to the ground floor when he lost his grip as the escalator reached the second floor. Cheektowaga police received a copy of a video of the stunt and posted it on Facebook Wednesday night in an effort to identify the youths involved.

The boy claimed he suffered only muscle soreness in the fall. Speyer said no charges will be filed against the four boys over the stunt but all four have been banned from the mall for the next year.

“The Cheektowaga police are very grateful that no one was seriously injured and thankful for the responsible actions of the young man’s parents,” Speyer said.
