New York state’s merchandise exports in 2014 totaled $86 billion, up 2.4 percent from $84 billion the year before, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration.
The state recorded merchandise exports of $14.3 billion to Canada last year, representing 16.6 percent of the state’s total and up slightly from the year before. Its next-largest markets were, in order, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Israel and the United Kingdom.
Total U.S. goods and services exported last year added up to $2.35 trillion, up from $2.3 trillion the year before.
The U.S. last year exported $727 billion in goods to nations that would be covered by the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade agreement being negotiated by the United States and 11 other nations. That total represented 45 percent of all U.S. exports.
