Inquiring minds want to know: Will Western New Yorkers be able to listen on radio to NCAA men’s basketball tournament games?
As Marv Albert might say, “Yesssss.”
The three Entercom stations – WGR, ESPN 1520 and WBEN – all are carrying tournament games.
If you can't take a late lunch or take a page from Ferris Bueller and skip out of work to watch it on TNT, the University at Buffalo’s game with West Virginia at 2:10 p.m. Friday is being simulcast on WGR and ESPN 1520. Three other tournament games the second day of the tournament will be carried on ESPN 1520.
The first Thursday game will be carried at noon on WGR, preempting Jim Rome. After that, 3 p.m. 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. games will be carried on ESPN 1520.
Two Saturday games and four Sunday games will be carried on WGR.
When the Sweet 16 starts playing on March 26 and 27, ESPN 1520 will carry two night games each night.
ESPN 1520 carries two Saturday night games in the Elite 8 on March 28 and WGR carries two Sunday games in the Elite 8 on March 29
The two semifinal games in the Final Four on April 4 will be carried by WBEN.
The title game on April 6 will be carried on ESPN 1520.
Inquiring minds also want to know: Will Joe Buscaglia freelance on WGR radio after he moves to Channel 7 in April?
Here’s what Greg Ried, who runs the local Entercom stations, had to say about that in an email: “We haven’t decided on Joe’s replacement yet or discussed whether we would use him as a guest.”
Channel 7 General Manager Michael Nurse would be fine with Buscaglia continuing to freelance on WGR while he works for the TV station.
Finally, inquiring minds also want to know: When and where will the “30 for 30”s installment, “I Hate Christian Laettner,” be repeated over the next few days on one of the ESPN networks?
ESPN 2: 1 a.m. Friday, 7:30 a.m. Saturday and 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
ESPN U: 6:30 a.m. Friday, 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
It also airs several more time through the month and is scheduled to air on ABC at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 4, the day of the national semifinals.
