Three woman taken to hospitals after Amherst car-bus accident

Three women, including a Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority bus driver, were taken to hospitals after the bus collided with a car that apparently drove through a red light just after 6 p.m. at Maple and Ayer Roads in Amherst. investigators said.

Dan Utz, chief of the East Amherst Fire Department, said his crews used a mechanical device to remove the injured driver of the car from her vehicle. She was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center with neck, back and facial injuries.

The bus driver was taken to Sisters Hospital for evaluation of possible injuries and the lone passenger on the bus was taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for evaluation.

Utz said the bus was not damaged but the passenger vehicle was destroyed. Amherst police are continuing an investigation of the collision. No charges have been filed.
