Zeisz stepping down as Tonawanda Council president

Carleton R. Zeisz announced Tuesday he will not seek re-election this year as president of the City of Tonawanda Common Council, a position he has held for over two decades.

Zeisz, 57, was first elected to the council in 1991 as Second Ward alderman. Two years later he was elected president. Zeisz’s full-time job is as general manager at the AMC Maple Ridge movie theater in Amherst.

“I think I had just gotten to the point where maybe it was time to not try to do both things anymore,” he said after making the announcement at the end of the council’s regular meeting. “I had kind of made a promise to my wife that I would move on.”

The council president, four ward seats, city attorney and city court judge positions are all up for election this fall.
