Botanical Gardens to be lighted blue for Parkinson’s Disease awareness

The central dome at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens will be bathed in blue lights in April to raise awareness of Parkinson’s Disease.

This region ranks at the top nationally for the prevalence of diagnoses with nearly 9,000 local patients, according to the National Parkinson Foundation of Western New York. The reason is still under study.

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month and the Botanical Gardens agreed to display blue lights, the color associated with the degenerative disorder of the central nervous system.

The dome has never been lighted for a specific cause before, according to a news announcement.
