Front page March 16, 1915: 'Enthusiastic' Irish-Americans prompt parade planners to think big

Buffalo's St. Patrick's Day parade was big news 100 years ago.

"Big celebration of St. Patrick's to eclipse all"

"Buffalo celebration tomorrow of St. Patrick's day promises to eclipse any that has marked the anniversary in this city for 15 years or more.

"The big outdoor feature of the celebration, of course, is to be the St. Patrick's parade, which has been confined principally to the churches and the societies of the east and south sides. So enthusiastic have the Irish-Americans proven over this event that the committee in charge of the arrangements has decided to become permanent and to plan for a similar celebration for next year in which the Irish-Americans of all Buffalo will be invited to join."
