Nichols freshmen Jada Brenon and Ciara Barone led their travel hockey team, the Rochester Monarchs 14U Girls, to the state championship on March 8. The Monarchs beat the Syracuse Nationals, 1-0, as Barone scored the winning goal at 1:58 of overtime on a short-handed breakaway. Brenon had the shutout. The Monarchs advanceD to the national championship in Green Bay, Wis., later this month.
The Cazenovia Lady Chiefs girls 19U hockey team won the New York State Tier II Championship and will travel to East Lansing, Mich., to participate at nationals. The Chiefs defeated Lake Placid, 4-1, in the finals to earn the title on goals by Erin Jozwiak, Maddie Norton, Alexis Peters and Katherine Lauber.
The 2015 Maryvale Athletic Wall of Fame banquet is at 6 p.m. Saturday at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens. Tickets cost $35.

The U.S. synchronized swimming duet of Anita Alvarez and Mariya Koroleva posted a sixth-place finish Saturday at the Make Up For Ever French Open in Paris. Alvarez, a Kenmore native and a member of the Town of Tonawanda Aquettes, and Koroleva scored 81.3667 points in the duet free final. They qualified for the final after finishing sixth in free (80.0000 points) and seventh in tech (80.1203) out of 29 duets.
Basketball officials Kevin Ferguson and Denise Brooks were named the 2015 recipients of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Dedicated Officials Award. The award is sponsored by Fox 40, the official league whistle. The pair were selected for their outstanding performance and knowledge of officiating while demonstrating sportsmanship and fair play.
BASKETBALL: The Eldredge Club will be holding a men’s four-on-four tournament on Apr. 14 with Open A, Open B, 40-over, 50-over and 60-over divisions in a double-elimination format.
