Fire severely damages Clarence home

Fire caused major damage to a Clarence residence late Friday night after starting in a garage and spreading through the home’s rear section.

Several passers-by called 911 to report the fire in the garage of the Peter Sharf residence at 5010 Salt Road shortly before midnight, Amherst Fire Control said.

The Clarence Fire Department initially responded, and found heavy fire tearing through the rear of the house and roof. Firefighters from the Newstead, Main Transit and Harris Hill departments also responded, before the blaze was declared under control shortly before midnight.

Officials listed damage at $250,000. Investigators from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and Clarence Fire Department are still attempting to determine the cause. No injuries were reported.
