Hamburg Police Capt. Gregory G. Wickett, a 27-year veteran of the force, has been selected by the Town Board to succeed retiring Police Chief Michael K. Williams, Hamburg Supervisor Steven Walters said.
The Town Board unanimously agreed this week that Wickett was the best choice to success Williams, Walters said. The appointment will be made official at the board’s March 23 meeting.
Williams is expected to formally introduce Wickett as his successor to the full police force prior to leaving his post at midnight March 20.
Williams, who had been police chief since June 2010 and a member of the force for nearly 35 years, is the son the late Robert G. Williams, who had been Hamburg police chief for 22 years.
Walters said the board agreed on promoting Wickett after interviewing him and Capt. Kevin A. Trask.
