March 13, 1965: Most WNYers file in the under-$5,000 tax bracket

Numbers released from the IRS fifty years ago this week show that most taxpayers in Erie and Niagara Counties fell in the “below $5,000” tax bracket, while those in the “$5,000-$10,000” bracket paid the most taxes in the two counties.

"$5000-$10,000 bracket pays the most taxes in WNY"

"Taxpayers in the under-$5000-a-year income bracket file the greatest number of federal tax returns in Erie and Niagara Counties, but those in the $5000 to $10,000 bracket pay the biggest share of the taxes."
