Craigslist ad for a commercial meat slicer leads to felony arrest

A 32-year-old West Valley man who ran a Craigslist ad selling a commercial meat slicer was arrested by state police Friday in a Lackawanna parking lot.

Daniel W. Stanek was charged with a felony count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property for having the meat slicer stolen from Emily’s Diner on Sheridan Drive in the Town of Clarence during an early-morning burglary Feb. 25.

State police were contacted after the owner of the diner noticed the online sale offer of a meat slicer that looked suspiciously like the one stolen from his business. On Friday Stanek found out he had been dealing with an undercover state police investigator when the man he thought was going to buy it ended up putting handcuffs on him. Stanek has not been charged with committing the burglary and the investigation of the break-in continues, according to state police officials.

Stanek is free without bail and faces further proceedings in Lackawanna City Court in two weeks.
