LOCKPORT – A Newfane man who stole a shotgun from a Town of Lockport woman’s home was placed on five years’ probation Thursday by Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III.
Daniel M. Voelker, 37, of Hillcrest Avenue, who had pleaded guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny, also was ordered to pay $350 in restitution. He used a ladder to climb through the window of the victim’s Lincoln Place apartment on Jan. 8, 2014.
Assistant Public Defender Michael E. Benedict blamed the crime on Voelker’s “severe and storied history of substance abuse.”
Voelker agreed, but Murphy told him, “That’s like saying you don’t have any control. You’re going to have to do better than that.”
