Simultaneous house fires Thursday evening on Durham Avenue and on Whitney Place caused a total of $275,000 in damage and sent one occupant to the Erie County Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
The victim of the fire at the 2 1/2-story wood frame house at 147 Durham Avenue was taken to the hospital about 8 p.m. Damage in that fire was listed as $80,000 to the building and $30,000 to contents.
A separate fire at a three-story Victorian-area structure at 46 Whitney Place caused $125,000 damage to the building and $40,000 to contents.
Both fires, each of them called in about 8 p.m. Thursday, remained under investigation.
The American Red Cross was dealing with temporary housing and other needs of occupants of both houses.
