The West Seneca Wings Girls U16 hockey team won the New York State Tier II championship over the weekend, and will now travel to East Lansing, Mich. to participate at Nationals. During the New York State tournament, they defeated Webster, Cazenovia, Skaneateles and Troy/Albany by a combined score of 14-4. Those victories earned them a game in the finals against Skaneateles, which went to overtime and was won on a goal by Ally Edwards. The head coach is Brian Hillery, who is assisted by Harold Keppner and Vince Piatt. Outstanding goaltending came from Sam Heintz and Abbey Mutton. Other players are Emma O’Neill, Kaira Patterson, Brigid Bork, Jordan Weisenburg, Jordan Glowacki, Claire McCarthy, Brianna Keppner, Kristen Bryszki, Katei Sylvester, Jackie Held, Kayla Kopinski, Janelle Piatt, Bridget Keane, Kira Herkey, Nicole Harris and Katie Roberts. Nationals run March 26 through March 30.
