March 11, 2000: The 'new' Spot Coffee on Elmwood

If you’ve been around long enough to remember Elmwood Avenue before the Spot Coffee in the heart of the Elmwood Village, you may be shocked to know that the “new” building there on the corner of Cleveland Avenue has been around for 15 years.

News Restaurant Reviewer Janice Okun took us inside the new “Urban Spot” 15 years ago this week.

"It hits the spot"

"Is Urban Spot on Elmwood a coffee shop or a restaurant? Actually, when you consider the care they take with the vittles and the quality of the offerings, it's definitely a little of both.

"This is the newest location in the chain, which has two other wildly popular locations, one on Delaware Avenue at Chippewa and the other in Ellicottville. Recently built, it's an austere structure with cement blocks and steel rafters much in evidence, a big counter where orders are placed and a few tables scattered here and there. New World Record is right next door."
