UB’s Squire Hall reopens after small fire prompts evacuation

Squire Hall on the University at Buffalo’s South Campus was back open after it was evacuated earlier Tuesday due to a small fire in a basement locker.

“It’s very small fire. It was put out immediately,” John DellaContrada, associate vice president for media relations, said Tuesday morning.

A student managed to put out the flames without much difficulty, he added.

Squire Hall houses UB’s School of Dental Medicine.

Buffalo firefighters and police responded to the fire, and stayed on the scene to clear the smoke out of the building.

“The building has been evacuated until further notice,” DellaContrada said.

A campuswide alert was distributed.
