The Buffalo Bills' backfield isn't as crowded as it appeared it could be earlier this week.
That's because New York Jets running back Bilal Powell -- a player squarely on the Bills' radar in free agency, according to a league source -- has elected to re-sign with his current team, according to a report in the New York Daily News.
Powell, 26, signed a one-year deal with the Jets, passing up the opportunity to rejoin coach Rex Ryan in Buffalo. Last season, Powell rushed just 33 times for 141 yards and one touchdown last season in New York. He can reasonably expect a bigger role in 2015, however, as the Jets aren't expected to re-sign Chris Johnson.
A fourth-round pick in 2011, Powell has 332 career carries for 1,296 yards (3.9 yards per carry) and six touchdowns in four seasons.
That leaves the Bills with veterans Fred Jackson, Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon as depth behind starter LeSean McCoy at running back.
