Falls woman charged with drunken driving after ramming vehicle

NIAGARA FALLS – A Niagara Falls woman has been charged with driving while intoxicated after she crashed into a parked SUV at 7:15 p.m. Sunday in the 7600 block of Buffalo Avenue.

Laura E. Walker, 29, of Seventh Street, also was charged with improper lane use. She was removed from the scene by ambulance, but was conscious at the scene. Police said she was slurring her words and they smelled alcohol on her breath.

Police reported they found the other vehicle, a GMC Suburban, had been pushed 30 feet and over the curb, by Walker’s Chevy Cavalier.

Walker first told police she only had a few drinks at a friend’s house and lost control on ice, but police found no ice at the scene. She later told police that she consumed half a pint of 70-proof berry liquor before driving. When she was told there was no ice at the scene, she told police she had been texting before the crash, according to a report .

Police took a blood sample at the hospital and charged Walker with common law DWI, based on observations at the scene.
