Catherine Foley of Getzville, a retired registered nurse, died Saturday at her residence at Weinberg Campus in Getzville after a short illness. She was 91.
Born Catherine Volpe in North Collins, she graduated as a registered nurse from E.J. Meyer Hospital in 1944, and thereafter worked at the hospital for a time.
A former Buffalo and Amherst resident, Mrs. Foley’s 30-year career as a registered nurse included working in the pediatric unit at Kenmore Mercy Hospital; at Millard Fillmore Hospital, where she was one of the first nurses assigned to the cardiac unit; and in the health center at Buffalo State College. She retired in 1975.
Mrs. Foley was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, Brounshidle Post 205 in Kenmore, where her husband was past commander. She was an avid traveler and camper.
Her husband of 59 years, Raymond G. Foley, died in November 2009.
Survivors include three sons, Mark, Richard and Michael; two daughters, Patricia Froebel and Gail Mendola; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 200 St. Gregory Court, Amherst.
