Sabres call up Hackett, who brings tribute to Bills and Sabres greats with him

WASHINGTON -- The Sabres have called up goaltender Matt Hackett, and he's brought a tribute to Buffalo sports legends with him.

Hackett's mask features artwork of Sabres Hall of Famers Dominik Hasek and Gilbert Perreault on one side and Bills Hall of Famers Jim Kelly and Bruce Smith on the other.

Equipment manager Dave Williams tweeted pictures of the mask.

Hackett is taking the roster spot of goalie Andrey Makarov for Saturday's game in Washington. Makarov served as the backup Friday in Ottawa after Chad Johnson suffered a lower-body injury during the morning skate.

Makarov is on his way back to Rochester with Mikhail Grigorenko. The center was on an emergency recall because Zac Dalpe left the team for personal reasons, so Grigorenko's demotion means Dalpe has returned.
