HOCHREITER - Gerald E. Gerald E. Hochreiter, former Director of Career and Technical Education of Monroe 2 - Orleans BOCES, passed away unexpectedly at home with his wife by his side on March 5, 2015. Gerald was born in Buffalo, NY, son of Margaret MacVicar. Gerald received an Associate Degree from Erie Community College, Bachelor's Degree from Buffalo State, Master's Degree from The University of Albany and his Certificate of Advanced Study from Syracuse University. Before retiring in April 2002, Gerald had an illustrious thirty-three year career in public education, working exclusively in the Career and Vocational field in BOCES statewide. Gerald ended his career spending eighteen years as Director of Career and Technical Education for the Monroe 2 - Orleans BOCES. In addition, Gerald served as an adjunct professor, student teacher advisor, consultant and writer. Gerald was very proud of his professional accomplishments. He was passionate about providing opportunities for non-traditional high school students. His career is marked with numerous programs he developed to make high school more relevant for students. He most loved being surrounded by family and friends, relaxing at the family cottage in Canada, and particularly enjoyed the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joanne; daughter, JoEllyn H. Mangano, Clarence, NY; sons, Gerald E. Hochreiter, Williamsville, NY and Joseph E. Hochreiter, Cortlandt Manor, NY; daughter-in-law, Kerry Hochreiter; and grandchildren Anthony, Olivia and Michael Mangano; mother, Margaret MacVicar; sister, Marie Hochreiter, both of Kenmore, NY and many extended family. All will miss his humor, laughter, and desire to help others. To honor Gerald, a scholarship fund for high school students in a vocational program pursing collegiate studies has been established. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Gerald E. Hochreiter Educational Fund, First Niagara Bank, 4707 Lake Road, Brockport, NY 14420. A Mass in celebration of Gerald's life will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11 AM at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Englewood Ave, Kenmore, NY 14223.
