Front page March 6, 1915: Mumps epidemic 'is daily growing worse'

Among the local stories on the cover 100 years ago:

"102 new cases of mumps here since March 1"

"Buffalo's epidemic of mumps is daily growing worse. Since the beginning of March 102 new cases have been reported to the department of health. There were nearly 300 cases reported in the month of February."

According to the CDC, 229 cases were reported in the entire United States in 2012.

"Board of seven provided in school bill"

"Dr. Thomas E. Finegan, assistant state commissioner of education, came to this city this morning, and following a conference with local legislators, public school officials and others at the offices of the Public School league, announced that a special bill reorganizing the public school system of Buffalo would be introduced in the legislature next Monday night."
