A man found near the front door of a West Avenue home damaged by fire remained hospitalized in critical condition Friday, according to a Buffalo police spokesman.
The victim, who’s believed to be in his late 60s, was found Thursday afternoon on the first floor of the home at 1268 West Ave. He’s being treated at Buffalo General Hospital.
Residents of a second-floor apartment were safely led from the house.
The blaze, reported at about 5 p.m. Thursday, started on the first floor of the 2½-story frame house and spread to the second floor and attic.
Buffalo fire officials estimated damage at $100,000 to the structure and $20,000 to contents.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the other residents.
