Sheriff Voutour elected president of state sheriff’s association

Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour was elected president of the New York State Sheriffs’ Association during the organization’s 81st annual Winter Training Conference recently in Albany.

Voutour, who holds a bachelor’s degree in business from SUNY at Brockport and a master’s degree in criminal justice administration from Niagara University, has served as Niagara County sheriff for the past seven years and was a member of the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office for 22 years, He was sworn in as president by former Niagara County Sheriff Thomas A. Beilein, chairman of the New York State Commission of Corrections.

The Sheriffs’ Association, comprised of all elected and appointed sheriffs in the state, was formed in 1934 as a not-for-profit corporation.
