The news speculated upon here Tuesday has become official today.
Joe Buscaglia, the Buffalo Bills beat reporter for WGR radio, is joining the Channel 7 sports team on April 1.
Channel 7 General Manager Mike Nurse announced today that Buscaglia will be the station’s senior sports reporter and Buffalo Bills beat reporter. He also will anchor and deliver online content.
Nurse added that he expects that Buscaglia will continue to work at WGR this month and do freelancing at the sports station after that.
“I have no issues with his freelancing,” said Nurse. “His exposure on WGR made him so attractive as candidate."
Buscaglia essentially is the replacement for Jeff Russo, who left his job as sports director almost two months ago to become a news anchor. Buscaglia joins Shawn Stepner and Nick Filipowski on Channel 7’s three-man sports staff.
Stepner has taken Russo’s role, with Buscaglia taking the spot opened by Stepner’s promotion.
“He brings unparalleled Bills expertise and depth and is a leader in delivering information across all platforms,” said Nurse of Buscaglia. “With Jeff Russo going to news, we saw an opportunity to make sure our Bills coverage didn’t skip a beat.”
Nurse also praised Stepner and Filipowski.
The move ends Buscaglia’s association with Channel 2, where his work on a freelance basis enabled him to showcase his TV ability.
