Muscato appointed to defend Falls man charged in shootout with police

LOCKPORT – Lockport attorney George V.C. Muscato was appointed Wednesday to defend Carl N. Lightfoot, the Niagara Falls man who allegedly exchanged gunfire with a detective during a foot pursuit in the Falls Feb. 4.

Attorney Dominic Saraceno of the county Conflict Defender’s Office said Wednesday in Niagara County Court that another attorney in that office is currently representing a witness against Lightfoot in a criminal case of her own. The same woman had previously been represented in another case by the Public Defender’s Office, creating conflicts of interest that rule both offices out of the Lightfoot case.

Lightfoot, 34, of Fairfield Avenue in the Falls, is charged with attempted murder. Muscato will make his first court appearance on Lightfoot’s behalf next week.
