Sweet resolve: police collar suspected 7-Eleven candy thief

NIAGARA FALLS – A Niagara Falls man who tried to take off with more than $130 in candy from the 7-Eleven at 2620 Niagara St. late Monday was caught with the goods, Niagara Falls police said.

Donnell C. Parker, 35, of Grand Ave. was stopped at 12:44 a.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of Ontario Street and charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. When Parker, who was a passenger in a car that was stopped, was patted down for possible weapons, officers found two boxes of candy, then two more boxes of candy in the car, police said. In all, 73 packages of name-brand candies valued at $133.87 were seized and returned to the store.

Authorities learned the suspect was in the candy aisle of the convenience store just before midnight Monday, stuffing candy into his jacket.
