Man and his girlfriend arrested in burglary

A 22-year-old Poplar Street man was arrested Tuesday morning along with his 19-year-old girlfriend for allegedly burglarizing and injuring a Poplar Street woman Monday afternoon.

Donald Johnson and Ladesha Douglas were arrested on Poplar Street by Police Officers Karl Schultz and Licia Esquilin about 8 a.m. Tuesday. Johnson was charged with burglary in the third-degree, assault in the third-degree, harassment, criminal mischief, petit larceny and obstructing governmental administration by allegedly fleeing from police when confronted hours earlier.

Johnson and Douglas were both charged with endangering the welfare of a child because Douglas allegedly encouraged Johnson as he hit the victim in the face with a glass cup, while Douglas was holding the couple’s nearly-two-month-old baby.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of an eye injury,
