March 2, 1950: One TV channel means slim pickings for entertainment

Many of us lament the fact that we have 200 television channels, but nothing to watch.

Sixty-five years ago this week, TV owners in Buffalo had one channel to watch — WBEN-TV Channel 4 — and that channel wasn’t even broadcasting all day.

TV pickings were so slim that the daily broadcast of the test pattern, usually from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., actually made the TV listings.

So quit complaining next time, and just pick a channel!
