Patricia Mangan of Derby is one of 16 athletes named to the U.S. team for the FIS Alpine Junior World Championships which begin Saturday in Hafjell, Norway. Mangan, who will turn 18 on Saturday, is a member of the National Training Group and is a member of the Holimont Race Team.
She has competed in the slalom, giant slalom, super G and combined this season. In January she finished fourth in a giant slalom junior races in Alpe Cermis and at Passo Rolle, Italy. Last Saturday she was sixth in the giant slalom at the National Junior Championships at Copper Mountain, Colo.
The Junior World championships are designed to serve as a test event for the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway. The venues at Hafjell and Kvitfjell for the Junior Worlds were used in the 1994 Winter Olympics.
