James V. LaMartina, former Westinghouse supervisor

Feb. 5, 1923 – March 1, 2015

James V. LaMartina, of Depew, a retired Westinghouse supervisor, died Sunday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. He was 92.

Born in Buffalo, he attended Hutchinson-Central High School and was a 1940 graduate of St. Mary’s Business School.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, attended school in Pensacola, Fla., and served as a yeoman third class aboard the USS Guadalcanal on anti-submarine patrols in the North Atlantic.

Returning from service, he began working for Westinghouse in 1946 and was a supervisor and inside salesman in the Motor Division. He retired in 1983.

Mr. LaMartina was a member of the former St. James Catholic Church in Depew, now Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish, for 63 years. He also was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His wife, the former Rose Dubiel, died in 1988.

Survivors include two sons, James A. and Martin; two daughters, Deborah Ernst and Marilyn Dwyer; a sister, Josephine Hoffman; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish, St. James Worship Site, 496 Terrace Blvd., Depew.
