St. Bonaventure women lose finale at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH – St. Bonaventure’s women’s basketball team caught a cold to start the second half and that gave Duquesne the opening it needed to pull away for a 51-43 win at the Palumbo Center in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

The game was tied, 25-25, at the intermission but the Dukes pulled away as Bona made just two of its first 10 shots in the second half. Amadea Szamosi converted two layups early to give Duquesne (20-9, 12-4) the lead for good. She finished with 12 points, while Jose-Ann Johnson led the Dukes with 14 points.

Nyla Rueter had 14 to lead Bona and earned her 800th career point. Katie Healy added 10 points.

This was the regular-season finale for the Bonnies (15-14, 5-11), who will enter the postseason as a No. 12 seed in the A-10 Tournament. They face 13th-seeded Massachusetts at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Richmond, Va.
