LOCKPORT – The Lockport Monday Night Cruise Optimist Club has announced the tentative schedule for its 2015 series of classic car cruises in Ida Fritz Park, West and Park avenues.
The events normally will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, except on Memorial Day and Labor Day, when the hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. The series begins May 11 and ends Sept. 14.
The opening event actually will be a May 4 screening of the film “American Graffiti” in the Historic Palace Theatre, 2 East Ave. The first cruise in the park follows a week later.
Other highlights announced so far include Military Night on May 18; a salute to antique vehicles on Memorial Day, May 25; Law Enforcement Night on June 1; and 1950s Night on June 8.
June 15 will be Country Night, with a performance by the Hot Country Liners dance troupe; June 22 is Firefighters Night; and June 29 is “Bikes and Blues.”
Children’s Night is July 6, Corvette Night is July 13 and Mustang Night is July 20. Aug. 3 has been designated British and Foreign Car Night; Aug. 10 is Van Night; and Aug. 17 is Community Night. Other Mondays have yet to be filled with special events.
To raise money to defray the costs of the cruises, the Optimist Club hosts a dance each year. Instead of the sock hop that has been held in the past, this year a 1980s bash is on tap from 7 to 11 p.m. April 18 in the Lockport Moose Lodge, 204 Monroe St. The price is $10 in advance or $12 at the door includes a cash bar, door prizes and raffles.
The event is restricted to those over age 21. Ticket information is available by calling 289-5459.
