Sabres' victory gives them points in five of six, closes gap on 29th-place Oilers

Just in time for the trade deadline, the Sabres are getting hot.

Buffalo pulled away from Vancouver on Thursday night for a 6-3 victory. The Sabres improved to 3-1-2 in their last six games, which gives them points in five of six.

It also pulls them within three points of 29th-place Edmonton with 20 games remaining for both teams.

Leading trade candidates Chris Stewart and Torrey Mitchell combined for three goals in what might have been their final home games in Buffalo.

“Whatever is going to happen is out of our control,” said Stewart. “It’s part of the business. We’re just as antsy as you are to see what happens.”

The Sabres will practice Friday morning before flying to Florida for a Saturday afternoon game against the Panthers.

Highlights from the victory over Vancouver are below.
