Kathleen E. Ganczewski, World War II veteran

Kathleen E. Ganczewski, a World War II veteran who served in the British military, died Mondayin Williamsville Suburban Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. She was 89.

Born in London, England, the former Kathleen E. Herring was raised and educated in England, and served in the British Royal Army, Auxiliary Territorial Service, during World War II. On Feb. 3, 1945, she married Walter F. Ganczewski Jr. in Ruislip, England, and the two moved to the United States in 1946, later settling in Buffalo. She also had lived in Niagara Falls.

Mrs. Ganczewski was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Frederick F. Cadille American legion Post 1664, Niagara Falls, and St. Adalbert’s Church, Buffalo. She enjoyed knitting and gardening.

Her husband of 48 years died in 1993.

Survivors include three sons, Michael, Mark and Conrad; a daughter, Renee Connell; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls.
