Motorist who hit Lewiston patrol car charged with DWI

LEWISTON – A Lewiston police patrol car was hit by a drunken driver late Wednesday, police reported.

The patrol car was heading north on Lewiston Road just after 10:30 p.m., when a car driven by Sandra Jo Frantz, 58, of Niagara Falls, tried to turn left onto Military Road, police said. The patrol car was T-boned, and pushed across the intersection and off the road.

The officer, whose name wasn’t released, was briefly trapped, police said. He reported minor pain to his neck and back, police said; Frantz wasn’t injured.

Frantz failed field sobriety tests at the scene. Police said a breath test, administered at the State Police barracks, indicated that she had a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 percent.

Frantz was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to yield the right of way, failure to use designated lane and improper left turn. Following arraignment in Lewiston Town Court, she was sent to the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
