Demolition scheduled for Clarence home gutted by fire

A Town of Clarence home gutted by fire Thursday night has been scheduled for demolition.

The fire at 5964 Chatham Lane was reported at about 8:30 p.m. by someone who saw flames coming through the roof, according to Amherst Fire Control.

Fire officials reported that nobody was living in the home, which was under construction in Essex Greens at Waterford, a luxury patio home development.

Damage was estimated at $200,000, and the Clarence Highway Department was called to demolish the structure.

Several local fire companies fought the two-alarm blaze. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Clarence fire inspectors and investigators from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.
