Batavia firm awarded contract for improvements at Lockport Trek plant

LOCKPORT – Smart Design Architecture of Batavia was hired Thursday by the Greater Lockport Development Corp. to design and engineer the renovation of Trek Inc. headquarters in Harrison Place on Walnut Street.

Trek intends to move its Torrent EMS LLC subsidiary from Orchard Park to Lockport in July, adding 20 jobs to the 115 Trek employees who work in Lockport now.

The cost of the $27,200 contract will be fronted by the GLDC and paid off by Trek through adjustments to its monthly lease payments, according to R. Charles Bell, city planning and development director.

On another topic, the GLDC board discussed in closed session possible successors to Alderman Kenneth M. Genewick, who resigned from the board because his full-time job as director of the Niagara County Office for the Aging prevented from him attending the GLDC meetings, which start at 7:45 a.m. and usually run past 9:00. No appointment was made.
