More places to go for trivia night

If shout-out rounds aren’t your style there are many trivia opportunities in the Buffalo area to try out. Bars like Founding Fathers and Gene McCarthy’s provide unique experiences, and trivia nights held by services including Geeks Who Drink, Stump Trivia and DJ Trivia are available to fill every night of the week. Check them all out to find your favorite.

Original Trivia

Gene McCarthy’s (73 Hamburg St., www.genemcarthys.com): Trivial Tuesdays, 7 to 9 p.m.

Hosted by Monica of Eye Candy Buffalo Burlesque. Five rounds with eight categories. First place wins $50 certificate, second $25 and third a round of drinks for the team. Single player or teams of up to six are welcome.

Conlon’s Bar and Grill (382 Abbott Road, www.conlonsbarandgrill.com): 9 p.m. Thursday

Cash prizes are awarded to first- and second-place teams based on points earned. Players on teams of two to four can buy Mulligans for $1 each if they don’t know the answer to a question.

Buffalo Trivia Company

This organization holds themed trivia events based on movies and TV shows from “Harry Potter,” “Friends” and “The Office” to holiday events based on “Hocus Pocus” and “Christmas Vacation.” Teams of up to four can enter at $10 per player. Register online with buffalotriviacompany@gmail.com

Questions are presented on screens and answer slips must be turned in before time is called. No phones or outside “study materials” may be used during game play. Modeled after pub quizzes in Ireland and the U.K., these tests cover a range of topics. Each quiz also contains a unique “name that tune” style round as well as soundbites from movies and TV shows. Play by yourself or in teams of up to six.

Locations include Gypsy Parlor (376 Grant St.), 8 p.m. Monday; Coles (1104 Elmwood Ave.), 8 p.m. Wednesday; The Century Grill (318 Pearl St.), 8 p.m. Wednesday; and Shenannigans Bar & Grill (1009 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst), 7 p.m. Thursday.

Questions flash on TV screens around the bar and teams have a playmaker, a small electronic device to answer questions. For single players and teams. Locations include The Library (4734 Maple Road, Amherst), 8 p.m. Tuesday; Davison Road Inn of Lockport (383 Davison Road, Lockport; www.davisonroadinn.com) daily, plus hosted trivia 7 p.m. Tuesdays; and Buffalo Wild Wings in Hamburg, Tonawanda and Niagara Falls.

Stump Trivia Quiz (www.stumptrivia.com)

Founded in 1999 outside of Boston, Mass., Stump’s professionally trained hosts lead games that involve wagering points and strategizing for bonus rounds. Stump takes pride in their original question content and accuracy. Teams can be made of up to six players. Locations include J.P. Bullfeathers (1010 Elmwood Ave.), 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
