Partnership with town, school district helped GM
The News article, “GM plants ready for an eventful year,” was both informative and uplifting. The General Motors plant in Tonawanda is important to our town and Western New York, and it’s great to see it moving in the right direction. The article did not mention two other important partners: the town administration and Council and the Ken-Ton School District.
Five years ago, GM approached both for a revised PILOT, and even though the school district was facing multimillion-dollar deficits and cutting staff and some programs, it partnered with the town and the Erie County Industrial Development Agency to create a new PILOT for GM. A secondary proviso was that the plant would hire as many town residents as possible. Hopefully, that has happened, and we look forward to GM’s continued success.
