St. Bonaventure had not lost its women’s basketball home finale since 2008, but that run ended Wednesday night.
La Salle spoiled the night for the Bonnies by scoring a 66-53 Atlantic 10 Conference victory behind the shooting of Micahya Owens, who had 20 points.
The University at Buffalo women (15-11, 8-7) also dropped a conference game, falling to Ohio U., 78-70, despite a career-high 32-point output off the bench by Mackenzie Loesing in a Mid-American Conference game in Athens, Ohio.
Against Bona, La Salle’s Explorers led by as many as 15 points in the second half as they put a halt to the home team’s two-game Bona win streak.
La Salle led, 28-18, at the half. The Explorers forced 15 Bona turnovers while committing only nine miscues. The visitors also had a 40-38 edge on the boards.
Katie Healy (Lancaster) led the Bonnies with 19 points. She also had six rebounds. Nyla Rueter and Mariah Ruff had 13 points each for Bona.
Loesing, the only UB player from Ohio, hit 5 of 11 from three-point range. She also was 9 for 11 at the line. Kristen Sharkey added 18 points and nine rebounds for UB.
Ohio (22-4, 13-2 MAC) got a 26-point performance from Kiyanna Black in defeating UB for the second time this season. The host Bobcats led 31-24, at the half. UB had a 40-33 advantage on the boards, but that was more than offset by 27 turnovers.
