Old Fort Niagara to honor volunteers, re-enactors

YOUNGSTOWN – The staff of Old Fort Niagara will honor its legion of volunteers and re-enactors at a recognition breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday. All current and interested volunteers are invited.

Volunteers logged 35,011 hours at the historic landmark in 2014, which the fort values at more than $550,000 in comparable wages.

State Sen. Robert Ortt, R-North Tonawanda, will present the “Volunteer of the Year” award at the breakfast. The award goes to a volunteer whose dedication goes above and beyond the expected and who contributes time and talent in a variety of ways.

New volunteers are always needed, especially with the annual Haunted Fortress, planned for Oct. 17 and 24. New volunteers may pick up an application and learn more about the opportunities available at the breakfast.

Reservations are required, by calling 745-7611, Ext. 221.
