Lockport man denies cocaine charges

LOCKPORT – A City of Lockport man pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Niagara County Court to an indictment accusing him of intending to sell cocaine that was seized from him in a Sept. 26 police raid.

Joshua D. Cooney, 27, of Elmwood Avenue, was charged with third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, after county Drug Task Force agents executed a search warrant at his then-apartment on North Transit Street.

A scale was seized along with the cocaine, Assistant District Attorney Laura T. Bittner alleged. County Judge Sara Sheldon allowed Cooney to remain free without bail.
