Coming attractions

• In boys hockey, the quest to crown playoff champions continues for Western New York Federation members. The private schools’ Niagara Cup semifinals begin at 6 p.m. at Dwyer Arena at Niagara University as top seed and two-time defending state Catholic champion St. Joe’s takes on St. Francis. The No. 2 vs. No. 3 game featuring Canisius and Bishop Timon-St. Jude caps the doubleheader. Timon is trying to reach its third straight Niagara Cup final, which is March 2 at First Niagara Center, while Canisius is trying to return to the final for the first time since 2012. The public school members of the Fed take center stage at Northtown Center at Amherst on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Section VI Division I (Large School) semifinals begin at 6 p.m. with three-time defending champion Niagara-Wheatfield facing Clarence. The nightcap at 8:30 p.m. pits last year’s runner-up Williamsville North against Orchard Park, which is trying to reach its first ever championship game as a member of the Federation. On Wednesday, the Section VI Division II Tournament resumes as top seed Williamsville East faces first-time semifinalist Grand Island at 6 p.m. The nightcap features Hamburg’s Bulldogs taking on Kenmore East’s Bulldogs.

• In boys basketball, the Section VI Tournament begins Tuesday but the action really heats up during the weekend with quarterfinals Friday for Section VI teams in all eight brackets and the Manhattan Cup semifinals taking over Canisius College’s Koessler Center on Sunday. The first game starts at 9:30 a.m. and the last of the four games (two Class A and two Class B) starts at 2:45 p.m.

• In girls basketball, the Section VI Tournament begins Tuesday night with quarterfinals in various classes set to start Thursday. The first of two play-in games for entry into the Monsignor Martin small school tournament is at 6:30 Tuesday at Sacred Heart as St. Mary’s faces Niagara Catholic. The winner plays Park at Sacred Heart at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The semifinals for Class A and B are Saturday at Canisius College.

• In boys bowling, the Section VI tournament starts at 9 a.m. at AMF Airport Lanes.
