Tuesday, 7:30 P.M.: SUNY Empire State College Appletree Series open reading featuring poet Gene Grabiner. Additional reading slots available. Empire State College, Appletree Business Park, 2875 Union Road, Cheektowaga.

Wednesday, 7 p.m.: Reading and book signing by debut novelist William Donohue, author of “Himself” (Buffalo Heritage Press, 2015), loosely based on the life of his great-grandfather Patrick Donohue, a working-class Irish gangster, Civil War veteran and emotional alcoholic, and set in Buffalo from the Civil War until the turn of the 20th century. Donohue is a former priest and retired civil servant. He served as State Commerce Commissioner under Gov. Mario Cuomo. Talking Leaves Books, 3158 Main St.

Wednesday, 7:30 P.M.: Readings at the RIC Series featuring poets Carole Southwood and John Marvin. Research and Information Commons, Daemen College, 4380 Main St., Amherst.

Thursday, 7:30 P.M.: Just Buffalo Literary Center’s seventh annual Members Writing Contest Awards Night and Reading featuring the presentation of the 2013 Judge’s Award (selected by poet Sherry Robbins, author of “Snapshots of Paradise” and “Or, the Whale” (BlazeVox Books, 2010) and the Audience Award, determined by the vote of those in attendance at the event.
