Police agencies throughout Niagara County put extra patrols on duty during a joint “Super Bowl DWI crackdown,” they announced this week.
Nine people from across Niagara County were arrested for driving while intoxicated in the crackdown, which was conducted from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2.
The extra patrols also made an additional five arrests on unrelated incidents and issued about 113 tickets.
Participating agencies included the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department; the Niagara Falls, North Tonawanda, Lockport, Middleport, Lewiston, Town of Niagara and Somerset police departments; and the New York State Parks Police.
Future crackdowns have been scheduled, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department.
